Captain Bryan Lane hails from New England and has more than 25 years experience in big boat cruising, racing and ownership.  Prior to re-locating to the Virgin Islands, Bryan was a partner with an international consulting firm, specializing in human resources.  His skill at problem solving leads him to constantly tinker and make improvements to Ursa Minor, and he takes great pride in keeping her in pristine condition.  Having studied French, he takes special joy in visiting the French islands each summer.  In addition to a deep love of sailing, he enjoys both snorkeling and scuba diving, hiking and exploring the islands and cultures of the Caribbean, and of course, sampling his wife Judy’s cuisine.

Co-captain/Chef Judy Knape began sailing in Michigan as a child growing up on a lake.  She practiced law in Philadelphia, Micronesia and St. Thomas prior to taking up charter work full-time.  After living in the Virgin Islands for over 20 years, she has an intimate knowledge of the best anchorages, snorkel spots, hiking trails and romantic hideaways throughout the islands, which she delights in sharing with her guests.  Judy’s culinary talents include preparing gourmet and heart-healthy meals with a tropical flair as well as an occasional sinfully delicious dessert.  She served for five years as Executive Director of the Virgin Islands Charteryacht League, so knows chartering inside and out.  Gathering shells and other “treasures” is a favorite past time of hers, and she loves sending them home with her guests.  The oldest of seven, she really enjoys welcoming guests into Ursa Minor’s “family”, and making them comfortable and happy as she caters to their needs.

Bryan and Judy both hold Coast Guard Masters licenses and are PADI-certified divers.  After two years of chartering together, they were married in 2001.
